i have a 2002 ford ...
i have a 2002 ford taurus. my power steering fluid is black. a friend told me not to touch it because it could cause more damage than changing out the fluid. is this correct? he said it is something with the rack and pinion leaking or? something like that. i do not notice any leaks at all the fluid level never changes but ford requires you to use atf mercon V for the ps system and unfortunatly this is a long cry from red.

The internal combustion engine is horrible. Oil doesn't even get to where it? needs to get causing wear and tear on the engine. At 150,000 miles, basically its ready to fail.

I guess it is so that you can turn the steering wheel freely. Otherwise with your wheels on the floor, turning the steering wheel from end to end will cause? your tyres to grind the floor surface when the car is not moving. But you are right. We need to be careful with a running engine when the front of the car is jacked up.
